Are seizures dangerous?

Question

Are seizures dangerous?
Two weeks ago my year old son had his st febrile seizure, weeks later as i was driving home my year old daughter had her st febrile seizure. Doctor said it was due to the cold, fever and ear infections they both have. But i need a second opinion, Now im worried that they will both grow up having seizures for the rest of their lifes. I think it might be something else besides a fever. Seizures dont run in my family, only my husband has seizures do to a head injury when he was a teenager he been having them since he was years old. Doctors say he dont have epilepsy and they cant find nothin wrong with him.........

Answer

Yes, they are very dangerous. Take both the children for a second opinion at a childrens hospital if possible or at least take them to a childrens specialist.brbrThere are various causes of seizures but both children having seizures within two weeks? Something other than a fever could be the cause. The family history plays into the big picture but is almost irrelevant since both kids have had seizures. brbrSeizures can be fatal at worst and can also cause other major problems. Get them proper medical attention ASAP! With proper medication seizures can be controlled and childhood epilepsy is often outgrown so dont despair but do act now. brMy best to you! Parenting is the hardest job in the world.brbrPS The word FEBRILE means the seizure is fever related. When you go for a second opinions just tell the doctor your child had a seizure. Let them make the diagnosis as to whether it is febrile or not.
