Can I return an unopened duplicate DVD I received at Christmas with the receipt I used to purchase it?

Question

Can I return an unopened duplicate DVD I received at Christmas with the receipt I used to purchase it?
I purchased the Office Season for myself a week before Christmas. Then I receieved it from my brother. Can I return the second unopened copy with the receipt I got from the original purchase? Will the barcodes ring up the same and can I get cash back?

Answer

legaly no, however as a good will gesture most stores will accept any item back provided it is in good condition and can easily be resold.brit sounds like this is true for your item.brbrhowever legaly if the item is damaged and is unfit for purpose then you are legaly entitled to a refund or replacement. stores may say they will only exchange an item and not give a refund. this is a normal sales tactic and is not a legal practice especially if the item was damaged as i said before.brif you buy an electrical item for example then stores can legally offer to get the item repaired for you if under guarantee. you are not automatically entitled to a refund. although if after being repaired the fault is still there and they offer to repair it again you can demand your money back or a replacement.brbrspeaking as a uk consumer with uk law. if in doubt in the UK contact trading standards.
